Education
Dr. Sanchez-Rivera received her Bachelor of Science in Premedics, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez campus, in 1989, and her M.D. from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1993. Her residency in internal medicine was completed at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in 1996, and in 1999 she completed her fellowship in hematology and oncoloyg at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to becoming the Oncologist/Director of Research for the Center for Integrative Cancer Medicine from 2004 to 2010, Dr. Sanchez-Rivera was the Chief of the Hematology and Oncology Service at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. Dr. Sanchez-Rivera has authored and co-aurtored many articles in peer reviewed journals, has participated in research activities and is an institutional principle investigator for numerous studies and clinical trials.
Accolades & Memberships
Dr. Sanchez-Rivera is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is a board member of Hospice of El Paso. In 1999, Dr. Sanchez-Rivera was presented the Army Achievement Medical Award, the Army Commendation Medal in 2001 and again in 2004, and received the QI Pin and Excellence in Care Pin by the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, while she was their Assistant Chief of Hematology for Oncology Services. She also received the American College of Physician Community teaching award in 2004.
